Children, Youth, and Family
In the Baptismal Liturgy parents promise that they will place the Holy
Scriptures in their child's hands and teach them the Apostles' Creed, the Lord's
Prayer, and the Ten Commandments. The Children, Youth and Family emphasis of St.
John's is based on a partnership between the church and the home to equip and
support parents in fulfilling the promises made at Baptism. St. John's utilizes
the research and programs of the Youth and Family Institute of Augsburg College,
Minneapolis, MN.
Kid's Kingdom - a family oriented group that meets for a variety of
activities. This year the schedule includes: Annual Halloween Party, Hayride,
Bowling, Hanging of the Greens, toy drive, snow tubing and sledding, swimming,
Easter party, and the annual family trip to the Erie Seawolves baseball game.
Youth - among other activities, the youth of St. John's have a strong
tradition of attending the ELCA Youth Gathering every three years. See
www.elca.org for more information.
Basketball Program - a long standing program at St. John's is youth
basketball. Last season St. John's sponsored five basketball teams of boys and
girls ages Kindergarten to High School. The teams Utilize the Gym / Benze Parish Hall.
Sunday School - is designed to partner families and the church.
Together in Faith - which is part of the Sunday School program draws parents and children together in faith. The
blend of Bible stories, games, theme-related activities, and parent child
conversations creates fast-paced, active sessions that are as enjoyable for
adults as they are for children. Sessions connect families around the basics of
faith: Bible, prayer, and worship. |
