St. John's Lutheran Preschool — Celebrating 35 years

History
St. John's Preschool was established by Mrs. Marie Schweingruber in 1970 to give young children an opportunity to socialize with other children their age and to prepare them for school.

Location
Classes are offered for three-year olds and four-year olds in the lower level of the Parish Center of St. John's Lutheran Church. The school entrance is located off the West 22nd Street parking lot.

Facility
Classrooms are large, bright and clean. There are size appropriate tables and chairs where children can do puzzles, art work or play games. There is also a kitchen area and a reading area. The children can sit on a large rug and play with a variety of toys. It is also where the children sit for lessens or to hear stories.

Teach Moral Responsibility
Each day the children have time for free play when they decide what to play and with whom. Snack time is offered each day with juice and cookies or crackers.

Class Schedule
Classes are held during the morning from 9 AM to 11:30 AM. Three-year olds attend classes 2 days a week, currently on Mondays and Thursdays. They have show-and-tell the first Monday of each month and gym day each Thursday. Four-year olds attend classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Every Monday is show-and-tell. Tuesday is art day. Thursday is rhythm day with musical instruments and movement to music. Friday is gym day.

Physical Exercise
In the full size gymnasium children do exercises, run relays, play with balls, hula-hoops and jump ropes. A room, called the Activity Room, is also available for use once a week. There is a sandbox; a workbench with hammers, nails, saw, and wood; and climbing equipment to help with developing gross motor skills.

Special Programs
Special programs are presented in December and May in which children perform for parents and families. At times throughout the year special programs are provided for the children, such as "visitors" from the zoo.

Welcome Diversity
St. John's Preschool does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarships and other school administered programs. All are welcome.

Staff
There is a low student-teacher ratio with a trained and caring staff, all of whom have Act 35 clearance. The maximum size for the three year-olds is 16 students with two adults; and four-year olds, 20-24 students with two adults.

Inquiries about the school can be made by calling the school at 455-5731.
